Costa de la Luz

This is the area in Spain, just over the Portuguese border. It is about a 50 min drive from Faro airport and is the next up and coming golfing area for Spain and Portugal. There have been many new hotels and golf courses added to this area, however it still remains very quiet and traditional and suit’s the golfer who wants a more relaxed and local golfing holiday.

The most common feature of the Costa de la luz are the golfing resorts. The golf resorts are all self contained and all provide very good half board options. The towns and villages are all a short taxi ride away from the golf resorts and we recommend that you go out exploring at least a couple of nights during your stay so you can sample the traditions and cultures this aera has to offer.

One of the first areas over the border is Isla Canela and Ayamonte. Ayamonte is a bustling fishing village with a fine selection of traditional bars and restaurants where tapas is a must. Ayamonte also hosts a market a few days a week where you can go and snap up a bargain on your day away from the golf. Isla Canela is a very small marina where there are a couple of international and local bars and restaurants. Isla Canela can be very quiet during the winter months but busier Ayamonte is only a 10 min drive away. The areas of El Rompido and Islantilla are a little further across the border and are home to some extremely good courses. Close by to both resorts are small villages and commercial centres where you can enjoy an evening out sampling the local cuisine.

The best bit about the Costa de La Luz it is that you get a lot more green fee for your euro and there are some fantastic courses too. This is an up and coming area and once you have golfed here you will most definitely want to return. The other added benefit is that the more established courses on the Eastern Algarve are only a short drive away, and the picturesque city of Seville is well within reach for a day trip with a difference.
